College of Arts and Humanities

In the Research Excellence Framework 2014, the research performance of the English department was ranked 7th in the UK. More than half its research was judged to be world leading and it was first in the UK for the impact of its research. Celtic Studies came second in the UK for research excellence and research impact, according to submissions made to the Celtic Studies REF sub panel.

School of Management

The Medical School is ranked joint first in the UK for Research Environment, according to the Research Excellence Framework 2014, and second in the UK out of 94 in the Allied Health Professions, dentistrija, Nursing and Pharmacy (Unit of Assessment 3).

The Computer Science department is ranked 18th in the UK according to REF 2014 u 80 per cent of its research was judged to be internationally significant and world leading.

The university also provides Welsh medium courses delivered by Academi Hywel Teifi, named after Hywel Teifi Edwards, which offers subjects across all colleges. Work began on the student village at Hendrefoelan in 1971, the South Wales Miners’ Library was established in 1973 and the Taliesin Arts Centre opened on campus in 1984. The Regional Schools of Nursing transferred to Swansea in 1992, and the College of Medicine opened in 2001. Technium Digital was completed in 2005 u, barely two years later, the University opened its Institute of Life Science, which commercialises the results of research undertaken in the College of Medicine. Work commenced on a second Institute of Life Science in 2009.
An ambitious campus expansion and development project is now underway, ensuring that Swansea University will maintain its momentum, and continue to work for the benefit of the city, its people and industries.
